Mr. Ted Sturgeon joined the IDB in August of 2007 as a Program Director.  He is currently Vice President of Programs and Curriculum. Ted directs several programs: the Aviation Industrial Readiness Program, Continuous Improvement and Innovation for Executives, and Innovation Coaching Workshops, as well as the LOGTECH, and Life Cycle Sustainment course offerings from the IDB. Ted has completed extensive education and continuous improvement workshops and research across the industrial complex, he developed and collaborated with NC State to develop and offer the Lean, Six Sigma for Executive Champions Certification, as well as numerous other IDB activities and projects.

Ted has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Southern Polytechnic State University and a Master of Science in Management from Troy University. Ted is a graduate of F/A‐18 Weapons and Tactics Instructor School, USMC Command and Staff College, and Expeditionary Warfare School.

Ted is originally from southeastern Pennsylvania and moved to the Carolinas to attend college and Officer Candidate School. He was commissioned a Marine Officer in 1985 and served 22 years as a Marine Aviator flying the F/A‐18 A&C and F‐5 E&F aircraft ultimately serving as the Commanding Officer of Marine Fighter Training Squadron 401, from 2002‐2004.

During his military career, he served multiple sea and shore based operational tours at MCAS Beaufort, South Carolina with 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing and 2nd Marine Division, and was the F/A-18 Class Desk Officer for the Naval Aircraft Atlantic Fleet, and Operations Officer of MSTP.

Ted retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in October of 2007 and his operational experience includes Operations; Restore Hope in Somalia, Deny Flight, Deliberate Force, Sharp guard in Bosnia – Herzegovina, and Southern Watch and OIF in the Arabian Gulf.

Ted resides in New Bern, North Carolina with his spouse and their dogs.
