LOGTECH Advanced – August 20-25, 2017

Thank you for visiting the participant website for the LOGTECH Advanced Program in Logistics and Technology!  We look forward to welcoming you to Chapel Hill, North Carolina on August 20th, 2017.  On this site, you will find more information about the course, along with other useful information about your trip.  If you have any questions or experience any problems while viewing the site, please contact Ms. Tiffany Shackles at either 919-969-8008 or shackles@idb.og.


1) Please visit the participant registration page and register your information to ensure all of your program material is correct: https://www.idb.org/programs/logistics-life-cycle/logtech-advanced-advanced-program-in-logistics-technology/logtech-advanced-registration/ 

2) For non-AMC participants, if you have not already done so, once you have registered on the LOGTECH website, send a copy of your professional biography and a problem statement to Tiffany Shackles either via email at shackles@idb.org or via the participant registration page (link above). The problem statement should be a few paragraphs max regarding a challenge that you and your organization are facing related to logistics, supply chain, operations and/or enabling technologies.  A sample problem statement is available for your review at the bottom of this page. Working team groups will be designed around clusters of similar problem statements, and these statements and biographies will be distributed to the class. A sample problem statement is provided below for your convenience.

3) Please review your welcome email from Tiffany Shackles, along with the “checklist” located at the bottom of the email, to ensure all action items are completed by August 7th.

4) Tentative pre-reading assignments are available in the Program Materials section of this site.  It is highly recommended that you carefully read through all of the required materials provided as it will help better prepare you for your time here.

There are also some additional/optional supporting articles and case studies recommended by the faculty if you would like to look over them. They will be located at the bottom of this page – note: these materials will not be covered in class.


The program will begin on Sunday, August 20th at 6:00 p.m. with an opening reception and dinner.  The program will end at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 25th. You should plan for your return flight home after 3:00 p.m. on Friday.  

A draft schedule of the program is included below and is subject to change.


If you are driving to Chapel Hill, the address for the Rizzo Center, where you will be staying, is: 150 Dubose Home Ln, Chapel Hill, NC 27517

If you are traveling by plane, the nearest airport is Raleigh/Durham International Airport (RDU). It is located approximately 15 miles from Chapel Hill, but traffic can increase the driving time to as much as 45 minutes.  You are responsible for your transportation to and from the airport. There are taxi’s located outside of baggage claim. Raleigh is also supported by the Uber app, for a cheaper alternative.

There is no charge for self-parking at the Rizzo Executive Education Center. Rental cars are not necessary, but parking is available if you choose to rent a car.


There is no need to contact the hotel directly.  A single occupancy room has been reserved in your name at the Rizzo Executive Education Center for check-in on Sunday, August 20th and check out on Friday, August 25th.  If you require reservations for additional nights, please contact your program manager, Tiffany Shackles (shackles@idb.org) and/or Ms. Robyn Sipe at 919-962-3121 or Robyn_Sipe@kenan-flagler.unc.edu. Your name is your confirmation with the executive education center hotel.

*Note: for AMC sponsored participants, please be sure to get extra accommodations approved by Quenessa Oney at the AMC office.

Although the schedule will be well-planned with speaking sessions, simulations and networking opportunities, if you wish to do so, you can find time to enjoy the amenities available to you, including: fitness center, outdoor infinity lap pool (weather permitting), and outdoor jogging trails.


All meals are included in your tuition, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Assorted snacks and beverages will be offered at the Rizzo Center each morning and afternoon. If you have a dietary restriction, contact Tiffany Shackles (shackles@idb.org or 919-969-8008) as soon as possible so that accommodations can be arranged.


The telephone number where you may be reached at the Rizzo Center is (919) 913-2098. Please ask all callers to identify you as a participant in the LOGTECH Program when leaving a message. When you check in, you will be given a direct dial number for your room and personal voicemail service that can be accessed from any telephone.

Faxes may be sent to your attention at the residence hall at (919) 913-2099 or during the day in the classroom building at (919) 913-2499. We will not interrupt class to deliver any messages or faxes unless they are extremely urgent.


A limited number of computers with Internet access are available in common areas at the Rizzo Center.  Participants may also bring a laptop and use either our wireless network or dial-up service. High-speed Internet access is available in all guest rooms, study rooms, and breakout rooms, as well as wireless network capabilities. A laptop for classroom instruction is not required.


There is no need for business or military attire; civilian business casual dress (such as slacks, polo or button-front shirts, and blouses) is appropriate for all class sessions.  The classrooms can be quite cool at times, so a light sweater or jacket is recommended.  Gentlemen and ladies often prefer to wear a sport coat or blazer jacket on Thursday night, but it is not required.  The weather is sometimes unpredictable so please pack rain gear as well.
