DAELP XV

Thank you for visiting the participant website for the Depot and Arsenal Executive Leadership Program (DAELP), proudly administered by the Institute for Defense & Business! It is recommended that you carefully read through all of the materials provided on this page as well as the program page in order to prepare for your time here. On these pages you will find answers to frequently asked questions and more specific details about the program and venue. 

PRE-PROGRAM ASSIGNMENTS

Complete our course registration as soon as possible. This ensures program materials will be complete and accurate as well as allow sufficient time to plan meals and other accommodations as necessary.

Any pre-reading assignments that may be provided by faculty will be available in the Program Materials section of this site. New assignments may be added leading up to the beginning of the program. You will receive an email from Lara notifying you of any additions.

DAILY SCHEDULE

The program will begin on Sunday, 5 November, at 6:15 p.m. with an opening reception and dinner. We will end at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, 10 November. Please do not schedule your return flight with a departure time before 7:30 p.m. on Friday for domestic flights and 8:30 p.m. for international. 

A copy of the schedule will be posted once finalized.

TRAVEL INFORMATION

If you are driving to Chapel Hill, the address for the Rizzo Center, where you will be staying, is: 150 DuBose Home Lane, Chapel Hill, NC 27517.

If you are traveling by plane, the nearest airport is Raleigh/Durham International Airport (RDU). It is located approximately 15 miles from Chapel Hill. Traffic can increase the driving time to as much as 45 minutes. You are responsible for your transportation to and from the airport.

There are generally taxis waiting outside of baggage claim; however, if you would like to schedule your taxi with a local service, we recommend RDU Express Taxi & Towncar, (919) 771-8222 or (800) 840-8098. Lyft and Uber are also available.

If you are driving, there is no charge for self-parking at the Rizzo Center. Rental cars are not necessary for the week.

ACCOMMODATIONS

There is no need to contact the hotel directly. A single occupancy room has been reserved in your name at the Rizzo Executive Education Center‘s McLean Hall for check-in on Sunday, November 5, and check-out Saturday, November 11. Please let Lara know as soon as possible if you require additional room nights.*

At check-in, your name is your confirmation. You will be asked for photo ID and a credit card, and you are responsible for any incidental charges you might incur.

*Note: AMC sponsored participants, please be sure to get extra accommodations approved by Quenessa Oney at the LOGTECH office.

CLASSROOM FACILITIES

Classes will be held in Loudermilk Hall of the Rizzo Center, located adjacent to your lodging.

MEALS & REFRESHMENTS

All meals are included in your tuition, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Assorted snacks and beverages will be offered at the Rizzo Center each morning and afternoon. Please be sure to enter any dietary restrictions during your registration.

HOW TO STAY IN TOUCH WHILE IN THE PROGRAM

The telephone number where you may be reached at the Rizzo Center is (919) 913-2098. Please ask all callers to identify you as a participant in DAELP when leaving a message. When you check in, you will be given a direct dial number for your room and personal voicemail service that can be accessed from any telephone.

Faxes may be sent to your attention at the residence hall at (919) 913-2099 or during the day in the classroom building at (919) 913-2499. We will not interrupt class to deliver any messages or faxes unless they are extremely urgent.

INTERNET ACCESS

A limited number of computers with Internet access are available in common areas at the Rizzo Center. Participants may also bring a laptop and connect to the wifi, though the use of laptops during class is discouraged. High-speed Internet access and wifi are available in all guest rooms, study rooms, and breakout rooms.

KINDLE FIRE

You will receive a Kindle Fire tablet following the opening reception for you to register once in your room. Almost all of the documents and books you will need for this program will be made available to you on your Kindle. Please come to class with an Amazon account already created. On the first day of class, we will ensure everyone has joined our group in the Kindle Whispercast system. This will allow the DAELP staff to wirelessly push documents and books directly to your Kindle.

In order to register your Kindle, please ensure you have an email address that you can access in class on your mobile device or a tablet. You are strongly advised to NOT use your .mil email address due to complications in receiving emails from Whispercast through government filters.

WHAT TO WEAR

There is no need for business or military attire; civilian business casual dress (such as slacks, polo or button-front shirts, and blouses) is appropriate for all class sessions. North Carolina tends to be cold in November, and the classrooms can be quite cool as well, so a heavy jacket or coat is recommended for outdoors and a light sweater or jacket is recommended for the classroom. Also, the weather is sometimes unpredictable, so please pack rain gear as well. Umbrellas are available for your use at the venue.
