DESCRIPTION:As you know\, diversity\, equality\, and inclusion (DEI) is on everyone’s minds in both the public and private sectors. The definition of DEI is evolving as we speak\, and we believe it is critical that our communities talk and think about how DEI impacts organizations and individuals. We would like to formally invite you to attend the first in a series of DEI panels hosted by the IDB. Led by leading experts in the field\, this will be a valuable and thought-provoking discussion on the implementation of DEI and the many obstacles that can limit its effectiveness. Segars\n\n\n\n\n\nDownload: “The Next Frontier of Diversity\, Equality and Inclusion” \n\n\n\nAbstract \n\n\n\nOne of the most challenging issues facing organizations is the achievement of diversity\, equality and inclusion (DEI). Importantly\, DEI represents a larger and more ambitious goal than achieving some or all of its component parts. There is a synergistic aspect of such efforts that is identifiable when it exists. Yet\, somehow\, it can be elusive to achieve. In fact\, many organizations have launched organizational revitalization efforts under the banner of DEI only to find that the benefits\, employee appreciation\, and momentum fall short of expectations. Perhaps these efforts are clumsy due to a lack of “know how” or unclear objectives. It is also possible that such efforts lack the ambition\, vision\, creativity\, and energy that is typically given to launching new products or pioneering new marketplaces. Our research suggests that innovative organizations apply a level of energy and zeal to DEI that matches the search for the next big idea. We also find that there are four identifiable values of DEI that guide these organizations. These values are representation\, participation\, application\, and appreciation. Along with the values\, there are seven guiding principles that are used to shape and drive their efforts. Both the values and principles are actionable and can serve as a way forward for any organization seeking to gain more from their DEI initiatives. \n\n\n\nThe Institute for Defense & Business delivers custom-designed education and research programs that present stimulating ideas to diverse public and private sector participants in an academic setting to foster collaboration and achieve excellence and innovation. Participants leave IDB programs with new job skills\, strategic insights\, business acumen\, and a broader professional network.   Their resulting improved performance helps them reach the next level in their career and lead their organization toward greater success. \n\n\n\nHistory In 2001\, IDB delivered its first educational programs in logistics and technology.  These flagship programs\, developed and delivered in partnership with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Kenan-Flagler Business School were custom-built for the DoD’s Center of Excellence in Logistics and Technology (LOGTECH)\, a center established through Congressional Directive to support the spread of logistics best practices\, processes\, and technology across the DoD. As the reputation of LOGTECH programs grew\, IDB continued to partner with organizations across the defense enterprise\, developing programs to address their unique educational objectives. \n\n\n\nIDB Today In addition to custom-built educational programs and research\, today the IDB offers several open-enrollment programs for professionals at all career levels\, ranging from a few days to four weeks and multiple residencies across several months. The IDB portfolio is continuously adjusting to meet the needs of the organizations we serve.  It currently includes programs on logistics\, supply chain and life cycle\, complex industrial leadership\, innovation\, and continuous process improvement.  The portfolio also includes strategic broadening seminars for national security and policy\, cybersecurity\, dense urban areas\, information operations\, and enterprise resource planning. \n\n\n\nThe panel took place on Friday\, April 30th at 11:00 AM EST.
