Seminar on Logistics Cooperation for Stabilization and Reconstruction

 The Seminar on Logistics Cooperation for Stabilization and Reconstruction is an executive education program designed to improve logistics cooperation among public, private, military, and voluntary sectors during times of crisis.  Many of these organizational cultures today consult, coordinate and even plan with one another, but rarely all of them together. The gaps or inefficiencies in logistics during crises are all too evident and have been the subject of much public complaint. Miscommunications, prejudice, and misperceptions persist. Much of the problem lies in a lack of trust, in legal or regulatory impediments, and in a host of other issues. As a result, any cooperative operational planning is often incomplete, or non-existent. This seminar will assemble many of the relevant actors in order to build a level of assured reliance and to find ways to improve cooperation in logistics.

The Course Objectives Are:

• Identify misperceptions, biases, and miscommunications that destroy trust and prevent cooperation;
• Discuss roles and missions of participating organizations;
• Raise the profile of host nations’ public and private sectors in logistics solutions;
• Identify legal and regulatory obstacles to cross-cultural collaboration;
• Identify problems in information sharing and analyze solutions;
• Promote innovation and leadership in overcoming institutional inertia;
• Use case studies and participants’ experiences to devise methods for archiving and disseminating lessons learned and best practices; and
• Use the residential experience in Chapel Hill and surrounding areas to strengthen and expand networks among logisticians.

Who Should Take This Seminar:

This program is designed for the following:  O-4 to O-6 military participants; GS-13 to GS-15 for government employees; and comparable level private sector, NGO and IO participants.  The desired participant profile is an individual involved in logistics planning or processes, and with experience in or responsibility for post-disaster/post-conflict environments.
