Bringing Together the U.S. Military & the Private Sector

The IDB is a 501(c)(3) N.C. non-profit research and education institute located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.  The IDB was established in 1997 by the state of North Carolina and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as an independent legal entity.  It has a self-perpetuating board of directors chaired by former N.C. Governor James G. Martin.

IDB Programs foster shoulder-to-shoulder partnerships among the Department of Defense, other government agencies and the private sector in a joint environment using world-class facilities including the Paul J. Rizzo Conference Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

From 1997-2012,  IDB programs have provided more than 4,000 participants with extraordinary  educational experiences using faculty from top national universities, U.S. and foreign government leaders, military flag officers, and experts and executives from the private sector.
